About Prefontaine
- He was an American middle & long distance runner
- He attended Marshfield High School from 1966 to 1970
- He placed 53rd in the Oregon state meet
- His personal bests his freshman year were 5:01 in the mile and 10:08 in the two-mile.
- He won every meet, including the Oregon state championship, and set a national high school record his senior year in the two-mile race with a time of 8:41.5.
- He set the record in the 5000 meters race, going on to the 1972 Summer Olympic Games in Munich.
- He died at the age of 24 in a car accident.
